1870 Census Notes:

The 1870 census for Fredericksburg Precinct, Washington County, Kentucky, stamped page 280, dwelling and family 2 for Donatus Mudd and his family, all white. Dwelling and family 3 contains a Charles Barlow, age 28, black, with other Barlow family. The head of the Barlow family appears in Ancestry’s index as Solle, age 50, born in Virginia (perhaps it is Cecila who was listed as the mother of soldiers George Henry Mudd and Charles Mudd according to their death records). Also in the household were Charles (28 or 29); George, 25; Caroline, 22; Harrison, 21; Harriet, 19; and William H., 1. It appears that this could be the Mudd family. Dwelling and family 2 was the Donatus Mudd family; he was 65, born in Maryland; Also in the household was Elizabeth Mudd (55, born in Kentucky) and 3 other Mudds and three other non-Mudd members. Donatus is probably related to the enslaver Austin Mudd. Donatus and Austin were both born in Maryland; in 1870 Austin was 68 and Donatus 65.
