Notes:
The CMSR revealed that very little information had been documented or retrieved by commanding officers, significant to the soldier’s illness or cause of death. The soldier died, only five months after enlisted in the 107th USCI.
Thomas Adams, a soldier in Company G, 107th Regiment United States Colored Infantry (USCT), died in the 25th AC Field Hospital, on 20 Jan 1865, at Point of Rocks, Va. An unknown illness took his life while he was serving near Point of Rocks, Virginia. CMSR remarks suggested that his illness that led to his death went unnoticed by the soldiers that made it through the Civil War. According to Thomas’ CMSR, the Army Surgeon General and Army Medical Director’s Office claimed that they had no information about him, not even the name of the unit to which he was assigned. The Muster Out roll page for Thomas Adams indicated he was never paid during his term of service. According to Adam’s CMSR, he was originally buried at Aikens Farm, Va. Per the War Department’s Form no. 14, Thomas was subsequently buried at Fort Harrison National Cemetery, Henrico Co., Va., Grave Marker 295.
