Widow Maria Boone filed but her claim was later rejected as fraudulent which was because she was revealed as not being John’s lawful wife. Maria died 18 August 1871 at the home of her old master Reade Beard.
John and Maria had no children but a John Boone filed a minor application on 4 May 1889. This individual claimed to have been the the son of of the soldier and that he was born in 1871, but the soldier died in 1865 therefore his claim was rejected.
