Pension Notes:
Harrison Cardwell’s widow, Mary Cardwell, filed a claim for a widow’s pension but a certificate was not issued. The reason for the denial of a pension for Mary Cardwell is unknown, but it may have been a result of her inability to prove her marital status, that she remarried, or that she was deceased before she could complete an appeal to the pension board. Further research is needed.

Enslaver Information
Name: Harmon Greathouse Cardwell Location: Shelby County, Kentucky
Previous Enslaver:
Enslaver Notes:
Harmon Greathouse Cardwell (1826-1900) was not found in the 1850 Census probably because both of his parents were deceased by 1844, he was not yet married, and/or could have been living with a relative. Chances are that he was in Shelby County, but somehow was missed during the enumeration of Shelby County in 1850, or his name was missed during transcription. The enslaver’s farm was located approximately four miles southeast of Shelbyville.
