Pension Notes:

Parker Bland (alias Blane) applied for an Invalid’s Pension on April 12, 1890, application no. 767876. Widow Edmonia Bland applied for a Widow’s Pension on Sept. 1, 1890, application no. 456573, filed from Indiana. A second widow, referred to as “Cont.” (Contingent), named Martha Bland, filed an application for Widow’s Pension on Oct. 4, 1890, from Washington, D.C. There are no certificate numbers for any of the three applications, which may be evidence that none of the pensions were awarded. These pension cards do provide supporting evidence for two possible wives of Parker Bland: Edmonia Bland in Indiana and Martha Bland in Washington, D.C. The pension cards also provide circumstantial evidence that Parker Bland died in 1890, sometime between April and August.
