Enslaver Information

Name: Martha B. Foushee Location: Meade County, Kentucky
Previous Enslaver: John S. Foushee
Enslaver Notes:

In 1850, John S. and Martha B. Foushee were living in Hardin County, Kentucky. They enslaved 6 people, including two boys, ages 6 and 11, who could possibly be Ambrose Fouchee.

In 1860, Martha B. Foushee, 68 years old, was living in Meade County, Kentucky, with her son-in-law Peter Fontaine and his family. The value of her personal estate was $2,000. She had one enslaved person in her name, who was a 19-year-old male, who is very likely to be soldier Ambrose Fouchee. It should be noted the family of Peter Fontaine also enslaved four people. It is possible they were family members of Ambrose (and may have used the surname Fontaine after the war).
