Family Notes:

The Ohio Death Index record noted Henry’s death date as 16 September 1922. The Veterans Administration Payment card retrieved for Henry Stith aka Stewart noted the 17th of September as his death date. This may reflect the date communicated to the Veterans Administration.

Henry A. Stewart and Laura Frances Berry Stewart had two children:

Susan/Susie Anna (1869/70-1955) and
Henry Stewart Jr (1872- ?) *note: earlier records show his name as James Henry Stewart though by 1900 and forward he went by Henry Stewart Jr.

Their daughter Susan married Colonel Morton (1874-1938) in 1892 (Colonel being his first name, not a rank or title).

Their son, James H. Stewart married Maude Stewart in 1899. Based on the 1900 census, they had a daughter named Margaret born in 1897.

Susan and Colonel had two children: Chester Gilbert Morton (1893-1985) and Lena Beatrice Morton (1897 – 1981).

It appears from the available records that Chester Gilbert Morton married Loretta (Slee), marriage date unknown. They had two kids:
David Morton – living
Luther J. Morton: 1950 – 2016

There is quite a lot of information on Lena Beatrice Morton as she was an accomplished educator and writer in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, who also wrote an autobiography of which a portion is used in her mother, Laura’s ‘Find a Grave’ memorial write-up. I am unsure if Lena ever married or had children though as of now it appears that she did not marry or have children.

Enslaver Information

Name: Richard Stith Location: District 2, Hardin County, KY
Previous Enslaver:
Enslaver Notes:

1850 enslaver notes: While there are two records for a Richard Stith in Meade County, KY, in 1850 he is 15 yo in one (parents: John and Mahala Stith), and three yo in the other (parents: Edmond and Mary Stith).
The 1850 record for Richard W. Stith is a closer match as he is 37 yo (born 1813), and lived in Hardin County in 1850, bordering Meade county where the soldier was born. Also Elizabethtown, in Hardin County, is where the soldier was enlisted.
1850 enslaver census notes: Similar to the notes above, Richard W. Stith in KY, enslaver, was in Hardin County, KY in 1850 — and while there not enough additional info to determine if this is the correct enslaver, with Meade and Hardin counties bordering each other, and with Elizabethtown being in Hardin County where the soldier was enlisted, there is a possibility that this Richard Stith could be the enslaver.
