Pension Notes:

Benjamin Swanegan died on September 15, 1865 in Meridian, Mississippi due to inflammation of the kidneys. Two different women applied for widow pension benefits. One was Martha Ann Carpenter, who married Benjamin on December 25, 1849. Squire Carpenter performed the ceremony. Martha Ann had three children with Benjamin: Charles W., Emily H., and Hannah A. Swanegan. The other woman, Emily, seems to be an ex-wife of the soldier. Deposition from Walter Browning and Henry Mount on page 31.
