Between July/August 1864, Burgess Grigsby was in Army General Hospital No. 6 in New Albany, Indiana. In June 1865 he was sick at Rock Island, Illinois. During his service at Rock Island, Grigsby shot and killed a prisoner of war who failed to comply with an order. In September 1865 he was sick in Meridian, Mississippi. Burgess died February 20, 1866 at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
