Family Notes:
It is noted that the soldier’s surname on his death certificate is spelled Logsdon vs Logston. The above family information regarding the individual believed to be the soldier’s wife was derived from the 1880 census where she was listed as Mary (A or H?), the 1900 census listed as Ann and the 1910 census where she was clearly listed as Mary A. While no marriage records were located, they are reflected on the 1900 census as having been married for 49 years and on the 1910 census as having been married 55 years. On the 1900 census, the soldier’s wife is recorded as being the mother of 1 child with no children living. Accordingly, one child is reflected above without benefit of a first name or year of birth. It is also noted that the surname of the soldier at enlistment was spelled Logston but on census records is sometimes shown to be Logsdon.

Relative to the soldier’s wife’s maiden name, the 1880 census identified Lucy Geddings, age 96 (1784), Black female, as the mother-in-law of the soldier, Charles Logsdon, and the mother of Mary Logsdon, Charles’ wife. Accordingly, Mary’s maiden name is being set forth as Geddings. Mary’s mother’s surname was not placed on the family tree in that the block asks for her maiden name.
