Notes:
Soldier became a Sergeant within the first 6 months following his enlistment but in the course of a court martial was demoted and sentenced to what appears to have been 10 years at Dry Tortugas – Ft. Jefferson. However the documents reflect the soldier on the muster out roll at Ft. Leavenworth Kansas on 12/20/1867. No facts leading up to or concerning the court martial were apparent in the CMSR nor the charges that the soldier was charged with.

Pension Notes:
It is noted that a documented court martial of the soldier was located during research with the soldier being sentenced to 10 years confinement at Dry Tortugas and the forfeiture of all pay and allowances due or that may become due. (Offense: Breach of military discipline) Presumably this would also apply to the soldier’s pension.

Enslaver Information
Name: James Davie Location: Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky
Previous Enslaver:
Enslaver Notes:
The 1850 census/slave schedule reflected among the 5 enslaved persons an 11 year old male. Based on the enlistment age stated for the soldier, this individual could possibly have been the soldier.
The 1860 census/slave schedule above is for the deceased enslaver’s wife following her remarriage which only showed one enslaved female, 3 years of age. Also, the deceased enslaver’s wife’s real and personal estate values for 1860 were separate from her husband’s following her remarriage. Those are the values reflected.
