Enslaver Information

Name: James Crutcher Location: Hardin County, Kentucky
Previous Enslaver:
Enslaver Notes:

There are four James Crutchers living in Hardin County, Kentucky, as enumerated in the 1860 census. However, there is only one James Crutcher from Hardin County found in the 1860 Slave Schedules. He lives in District 3 and is the enslaver of six people, including one 36-year-old male noted as mulatto, which is very likely to be soldier Hardin Crutcher. Of the four James Crutchers living in Hardin County, Kentucky, the one most likely to be the enslaver of Hardin Crutcher is the 66-year-old farmer with real estate valued at $6,000 and personal property valued at $5,165. (He is listed as living in District 3, with six enslaved persons, who would provide supporting evidence of his higher personal property value.)

In the 1850 Slave Schedule for James Crutcher, there is a 26-year-old male described as mulatto, who meets the age and description of Hardin Crutcher.
