Freedman’s Bank Notes:

Two Freedman’s Bank records were retrieved for Jacob Stone. The first account (#738) was opened May 1, 1866. According to that record, Jacob was born in Nelson County, Kentucky to Isaac and Mina Stone. His company, regiment, and rank were recorded. Notably, it appears that Jacob Stone signed the document instead of making his mark.

The second Freedman’s Bank account (#1255) was opened on January 1, 1867, and gave slightly more detailed information. Jacob was reportedly born in Bloomfield, Nelson County, Kentucky. He resided in Louisville, Kentucky and worked as a grocery keeper. Jacob’s father was Isaac Stone; no other relatives were documented. Jacob made his mark on this record instead of a signature. Additionally, he named William Duncan as his enslaver, which differs from the information in his ledger and CMSR.
