The CMSR for the soldier was located in Fold 3. In December 1865, the soldier was detached to the Quarter Master Department at Indianapolis, Indiana. The soldier was documented to have passed away at the U.S. Post Hospital, Cairo, Illinois, due to pneumonia, on 24 Feb 1866.

Pensioners:    Harriet Johnson

Pensioner County:  Jefferson Pensioner State: KY
Number of Pages:
18
Pension Notes:

The pension file details the soldier’s widow, Harriet Thawbush nee Johnson’s successful claim to receive a widow’s pension for his service having indicated that she married the soldier in Louisville, KY, on 4 Dec 1865. The marriage, although no written document could be presented, was supported by two witnesses, a Rachel Robinson, and John Adams, the minister who performed the ceremony. In addition, two soldiers serving in the regiment of Thawbush supported their knowledge of the wedding and explained an apparent mixup with Thawbush being enlisted and called by the last name of Foger. These witnesses were Pious Bell and Thomas Canard. The file failed to disclose any relatives for either Thawbush or his wife. In addition, the file indicated that the couple had no children. On 5 Sept 1868, Harriet was awarded a pension of $8/month from the beginning date of 25 Feb 1866. She was represented by attorney H.M. Carr, Louisville, KY.
