James Lucas died of chronic diarrhea in Texas in February of 1866. He had one child named Laura Lucas. Her mother was Eliza Jane Smith, who died at Camp Nelson, Ky in 1865 and was deceased at time of filing. A record of the interments at Camp Nelson indicates that an Eliza Lucas was buried July 5th, 1865. Laura’s grandmother, Polly Garnett, was appointed her guardian in March of 1868.
