1875 Freedmen’s Bureau: Memoranda of the Result of Special Examination
Apparently, Sylla Hagan was applying for Orl’s pension and needed witnesses to prove he was her son. Certificate No. 619296
Sylla Hagan, mother of Orl Hagan. Born in Nelson Co. – now lives in Marion Co. (Sylla was blind in left eye – age about 45) Orl was slave of Miles Hagan. Sylla belonged to the same man. Witnesses on this Memoranda were William Bolland and James H. Mattingly. Noted at the bottom of document that Isaac Lee (father of Nathan Hagan) and John Lee were witnesses on the application. Sylla was paid $324.53 on 2/23/1875. No record could be found to say that this was pension money.
