Enslaver Information
Name: Mary C. Haviland Location: Harrison County, Kentucky
Previous Enslaver: Robert S. Haviland
Enslaver Notes:
In the Company Muster-In and Descriptive Roll card, Robert Haviland’s owner is identified as Henry Haviland. However, the Slave Compensation Claim application is signed by his mother, Mary C. Haviland. She was widowed in 1858, and it is far more likely that her husband, Robert Sheffield Haviland, was the original enslaver. Henry may have been assumed the owner as acting head of household in 1865.
