In the 1900 census record, Mary Weeden is noted to be the mother of 9 children with only 5 surviving. Definitely surviving were Mary, Malinda, Rachel, and Emma.
The daughter Malinda also went by the name Malinda Courtney but in her marriage records, her parents are identified as Dan Weeden and Mary Courtney. Since the first 5 children were all born prior to emancipation, they too may have used the surname Courtney rather than Weeden.
There is no indication of a direct family relationship between Wash Weden and Dan Weden.
