The CMSR states that Snowden originally enlisted with the 108th USCI but transferred to the 5th USCC on August 2, 1864 (page 5). On December 30, 1864, he was reported as sick and in the hospital at Bowling Green, Kentucky (page 7). In Jan/Feb 1865, he was still sick in the hospital at Bowling Green (page 8). By March/April 1865, he was out of the hospital and back with his regiment (page 10). He was sent back to his regiment on April 16, 1865 at Bowling Green (page 11). His illness was chronic rheumatism (page 11).

Family Notes:

No death records for Stephen Snowden were found. Based on Emma Snowden’s widow’s pension application date, Stephen Snowden died no later than July 23, 1883. His son, Willie Snowden, died of scrofula on May 4, 1874, at age four. His son Stephen Snowden was just two months old when he died of convulsions on November 8, 1874. After Emma Snowden filed for a widow’s pension, she vanished from the record.
