On October 31,1864, Samuel Wilson was in the hospital at Camp Nelson. In November 1864 he was back to duty. He was recorded as a deserter on December 29,1864, then was located in Lebanon, Kentucky on January 2, 1864, and was back to duty by January 1865. Between July/August 1865 Wilson was AWOL and back to duty by September 1865. It was further noted he was on 24 hours leave on August 18, 1865. Between November 1865 and February 1866, he was assigned as the company cook.
