Notes:
Embry was appointed 1st Sgt in July of 1864. He was killed near Ringgolds Barracks, Texas, while in pursuit of a deserter. His detachment was ambushed, and in the exchange of gunfire, Embry was shot and killed. Though the Civil War was over, he was still in the service of the Union Army at the time of his death.

William and Mary Embry only had one child together: Jordan Embry. In the pension file, Mary states her first marriage was to an Elisha Easton; she may have had children by him but none are mentioned. Her maiden name was very likely Norrell; her death record indicates her parents were James Bean and Lucy Norrell. William Embry’s grandson Jordan A. Embry, Sr. was a well-known musician and bandleader. He played various venues in the 1920’s and 1930’s including an engagement at Cincinnati’s Music Hall in 1932.
