William and Ruth Miles raised at least 6 children in Bullitt County, Kentucky. Descendants lived in the same county, as well as in Indiana and Michigan. Just as William had done, several descendants served in the military. At the time of her death in 1983, Ruth Miles Schooling, daughter of William and Ruth, had 18 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Soldier Miles was not found in the 1880 census. Soldier William Miles and his wife Ruth were both enumerated in the 1900 and 1910 censues with their family in Bullitt County. By the 1920 census, Ruth was a widow living in Bullitt County with her 3 children. In 1930 Ruth lived with her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. By 1930 Flossie Miles lived in Detroit with her husband John B. Wilson and children. James and Flossie were togethr in the 1940 census, but by 1950 they were either divorce or separated — Flossie appeared as divorced, James as separted in the 1950 census. Other descendants of WIlliam and Ruth Miles in Louisville and other areas.
