Enslaver Information

Name: Ben R Porter Location: Jefferson Co., KY
Previous Enslaver: James Porter
Enslaver Notes:

In 1850, Wilson’s enslaver was James Porter, who died about 1854. He was the presumed father of Ben R. Porter. J. A. Porter, born about 1832 may have been the individual noted, on Wilson Porter’s 1921 death certificate as the white father of this soldier (James A.). He was a presumed son of the elder James Porter who was born about 1779. James A. Porter, the son died in 1860, and bequeathed the soldier’s mother, America, to Naomi, his mother. By 1860 Ben R Porter was the documented enslaver of Wilson Porter and living in Naomi Porter’s household. By 1870 and 1880, Ben (Benjamin Rush) Porter was enumerated with his wife and children in Middletown, Jefferson County, KY. This was the same precinct where Wilson and his family were enumerated in census schedules for years.
